Chapter 7 · 7.4
Deleting an e-mail address
No longer need an e-mail address, for example because an employee is leaving? Then delete it under E-mail Accounts.
Please note: Deleting is permanent. All mail in the mailbox will be gone afterwards, including on devices that use IMAP. If you want to keep the mail, make a copy first, for example by dragging the mail to a local folder in your mail program.
How to delete an e-mail address
- In DirectAdmin, go to E-mail Accounts and, if needed, select the correct domain at the top right.
- Tick the box on the left next to the address you want to delete (1). You can also tick several addresses at once.
- Click Delete (2).
- DirectAdmin will ask you to confirm. Click CONFIRM, or Cancel if you change your mind.

Prefer to switch it off temporarily first?
Not sure yet, or want to pause an address for a while? Tick the mailbox and click Suspend. This suspends the mailbox: it can no longer be used to log in or send and receive mail. Use Unsuspend to turn it back on. The mail in the mailbox is kept.
Keeping mail to the old address coming in
Want mail sent to the deleted address not to be lost, but to arrive with a colleague instead? After deleting it, create a forwarder with the same name to your colleague's address (see Forwarders: forwarding mail to another address). Or set up an autoresponder on the old address stating that it's no longer in use and which address people should use instead (see Autoresponders).
Frequently asked questions
Can I restore a deleted mailbox?
Possibly, from a back-up. WebOké makes a back-up of your package every night. You can read how to retrieve mail from it in Can I also do this in My WebOké? WebOké Backups.
I want to remove my website but keep my mail.
Don't delete any e-mail addresses or the domain itself, just the files of your website (see Opening File Manager: the directories in your package).
I can't delete the default account.
That's correct, it's part of your package (see The default email account of your package).
