Chapter 16 · 16.14
Resuming photo upload on Android after an app update
The question: since an update of the Nextcloud app on Android, new photos no longer end up in your Nextcloud, without any error message.
Why: with larger updates, the Auto upload settings have been completely overhauled a few times. This can cause a folder to be switched off, or Android may ask for permission again. Android can also switch the battery restriction back on after an update.
How to switch it back on
- Open the Nextcloud app. Is there a notification at the top, for example about permission or battery saving mode? Tap it and follow the instructions.
- Menu (three lines), Settings, Auto upload. Is the Camera folder (and any other folders) still switched on? Switch it on.
- Tap the three dots next to the folder and check the destination folder in your Nextcloud. Is it still correct, for example pointing to your own folder instead of /AutoUpload?
- Check the permission: Android Settings, Apps, Nextcloud. Grant access to photos and videos, or Access to all files.
- Set the battery setting for Nextcloud to Unlimited.
- On the Auto upload screen, tap Sync now.
Photos taken in the meantime
- The app normally only uploads photos taken after switching it on, unless Also upload existing files is switched on. Switch on this option in the folder settings to still include the missed photos. The app skips photos that are already in your Nextcloud.
- Or upload the missed photos manually: open the destination folder in the app, tap the + and select the photos.
- Check Uploads in the menu: this shows failed uploads, which you can retry.
Tip: do you use the F-Droid and Google Play versions interchangeably? Pick one. Two Nextcloud apps with Auto upload switched on will cause duplicate photos.
The full checklist can be found in Photo upload on your phone stops; setting up Auto upload is covered in Automatically uploading photos.
